I Cry The Day That I Take The Tree Down

We took our Christmas decorations and lights down today.  I didn’t really cry, but it always reminds me of the Michael McLean song that says, “I cry the day that I take the tree down.  I want the season to last all year ‘round.”  It’s true.  I get a little depressed as I drive home from work and notice the lights around town slowly disappear.  I love this little reminder of The Light and Life of the World.  I made Corey leave one strand up in our family room in the basement, saying it made for good “movie” lighting.

Christmas lights and decorations take me back to childhood.  I mentioned to Corey that it would be fun to sleep by the Christmas lights one night, like a sleepover.  The next thing I knew, he had hauled the air mattress and blankets into the living room.  I’m glad that I have a husband that humors me once in a while.  :c)

As I took the tree down, I thought I would highlight some of the Christmas ornaments that have special meaning to them.  Mom did this on her blog and I thought it was such a good idea that I would steal it.

This is not my tree.  But it’s cool.  The light saber is a nice touch.  I digress.  Back to the blog…

Corey and I went to San Antonio on our honeymoon.  This was on clearance for really cheap in a souvenir shop and even though it’s not an ornament, we thought it would make a good one.

Corey and I always have a friendly competition on which state is better, Idaho or Texas.  Corey initially placed this ornament at the top of the tree, but it soon found it’s rightful place at the bottom of the tree.  Hmmm… wonder how that happened? Heh, heh, heh.

One of my best friends from high school, Mark Day, gave this ornament to us as a wedding present.

I’ve always been a Jazz fan.  I think my Aunt Maxine gave me this one.  It always finds a place near the top of the tree, even when I was still living in Mackay.

Corey’s mom made this ornament for him when he was 3 years old.

This was Corey’s mom’s ornament.  She liked Wedgwood stuff and he’s treasured this ornament ever since she passed away nearly seven years ago.

Corey gave me this ornament while we were dating.

Mom got this ornament after I was born.  It has my name, what day I was born, what time I was born, and how much I weighed.

My Grandma Grace made this one.  Corey has one almost exactly like it, only with red and gold beads instead of pink and silver.  His Grandma Walker made his.

My mom gave this one to me. She said it reminded her of me because the angel has red hair.  It’s so pretty.  I love this one.

This is one of my favorites.  Mom made it.  She was so proud of it until Dad came in and said that it looked like Rudolph was “sloshed”.  It’s so true!  We laugh about it every year.  Intoxicated Rudolph makes it to front and center on the tree every year.  After I got married, I wanted one, so Mom made two duplicates for Brittney and I.

Sloshed Rudolph

I have another favorite, but I don’t have a picture of it because it hangs on my mom’s tree.  The ornament features Santa Claus, holding his hat in hand, kneeling on one knee in worship before baby Jesus in a manger.  I love what it signifies.  Another reminder of what the season is all about.
